When five year old Stephen Bufton, son of ABWA’s founder Hilary Bufton, passed away in 1953, a memorial fund was created in his name to further educational opportunities for women, both members and non-members.

Since its inception over sixty years ago, the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF) has awarded $16 million dollars in scholarships to more than 16,000 women.

The SBMEF exists to provide educational grants and scholarships to women pursuing post-secondary educational goals as well as ongoing professional development in order to support their career advancement and to help them become the role models, mentors and leaders of the future. Through SBMEF, ABWA South Shore awards the following scholarships to help women because role models, mentors, and leaders of the future:

  • Outright Grants ($1500)
  • Impact Scholarship ($1000 to $2000)
